yea, tis true. About time I got it going again.
Glad I have though.
The tuning atm is pretty decent, not overly rich, and not lean, but with unknown jets, I think it's being overfuelled still, so I really am hoping new jets will help out the tune alot.
ATM, I won't be paying anyone to tune it, there are plenty of folk on here willing to lend a hand, or some advice, which is always good and much appreciated. The only thing I'll have trouble with is the jets. I've ordered standard jets, which may be too big still, as the DGAV was standard on 2L escort and cortinas (for eg) so I might still be oversized.
The other issue, is that I've no choke at all, which means I have to find a compromise with the tuning, to have some form of coldstart capabilities. For example, now it idles at about 950-1050rpm when warm, which means when cold it idles at about 500-600rpm (approx, after 30-40sec rev/warm up).
While it idles comfortably at 850odd rpm when warm, this makes the cold idle much too low, basically non existant, meaning it'll stall all, untill warmed up.
I'm not sure if this is making much sense, but yea, I've got my work cut out to get it going right. Once I've rebuilt/rejetted it, I'll post up again, and let you all know how I've gone/if I need help!

Just lean it off and pump the throttle when it's cold to keep it rich at idle. That's what i used to do with the 44 IDF on mine. Then i put a choke cable on it.Originally posted by Jarred View Postyea, tis true. About time I got it going again.

I tried the cable choke trick, but failed miserably! hahahahOriginally posted by Preen59 View PostJust lean it off and pump the throttle when it's cold to keep it rich at idle. That's what i used to do with the 44 IDF on mine. Then i put a choke cable on it.

atm to warm it up, I hold it at about 2000rpm for 30secs -1 min, and she's good to go (kinda) hahahah

Just constant little pumps will work. Not very fuel efficient though.Originally posted by Jarred View PostI tried the cable choke trick, but failed miserably! hahahah

I might have to have a closer look at this thing one day.
Make sure your thermostat is present and working properly, this will help with getting it up to temp quickly.
Check the condition of your plugs and exhaust pipe. If they're both covered in black sooty gunk, you're too rich.
After a highway run the pipe should be a light grey.
Check those leads too that thing was misfiring.
If that engine is missing, of course it's going to run rich.
Pop in the std Jets and see how it goes.
Get that all sorted then we can do some CO probing and set that mixture up properly.
Adjusting Fuel mix is the last thing you do once everything else is running properly.
and congrats again on getting it back on the road.

Does it have the choke valve in the carby? I didn't look.Originally posted by Jarred View PostI tried the cable choke trick, but failed miserably! hahahah
A choke cable costs less than $10 and will solve your problem.

choke valve being the square plates that sit ontop of the 'throats'?? Cause I have them.Originally posted by Peter Jones View PostDoes it have the choke valve in the carby? I didn't look.

Pete
Remeber though, it was originally a water choke, so I'm not sure if it can run a manual choke without any mods..??

Cool, there are kits available to convert that to manual, try some where like Autobarn/Carac in Dandenong. (Your local Autobarn won't have it, go to Dandenong.)
Otherwise visit a carby joint and get the linkages to do it the way weber intended.
Or .....just add water!

Small update:
Rejetted the carb the other week, and replaced a few things on the carb, with new bits. Instantly it ran better will bigger jets, so much so that I havn't even fiddled with it that much yet (I was too busy enjoying driving it!)
But thats still something I have to do.
I might rejet the primary throat, with the aim of getting better economy. I did 10L/100kms last tank, which included 200km of highway driving (down to Tim's and back) this was running on 95 too, which helps a bit I find.
Clutch cable broke yesterday when I was out. a little inconvienient no doubt, but stu came to my rescue with a spare (cheers stu). Although I have to fix it up. (put the clips on the wrong way)
Picked up some new doors the other day aswell. Not only are they mint, but they are MINT! They're real clean, rust free, and very straight too. Unfortuntately they're citrus red.... looks a bit funny with the yellow. So now I have 3 spare LHS doors, and 2 spare RHS doors. time for a sale
most importantly though (the main reason I bought them...)
Working quarter vents!

This is where the pics would be but photobucket is down for maintainance.. grrr.. I'll put some up later one.
There are a few other small things I've done too, mainly to keep it running though
SO i got a new battery, which solved some of my problems I was having. Also got an LS lip spoiler from Dom (cheers mate) and I have a pic of that that'll share later on too.
Apart from that. Just starting to save up a bit more, so I can buy some stuff!!

The pics don't really show it, but these doors are mint. Car they came off must have been resprayed at some stage.
